In the women’s singles, Olympic champion Chen Meng edged out Japan’s young talent Miyu Kihara 4-2 in a tense round of 16 match, advancing towards her goal of clinching the significant women’s singles title. After equalizing at 2-2, Chen said she managed to regain composure and secure the win. Her impressive list of accolades includes an Olympic gold medal, a Women’s World Cup medal, and a Grand Slam title.
Top-seeded Sun Yingsha dominated South Korean teenager Shin Youbin with a 4-0 victory, and Wang Manyu staged a comeback to defeat Germany’s Nina Mittelham 4-1 in a closely contested match.
